The new year is right around the corner and it’s time to start thinking about trends for 2018.

Here are the top three construction and roofing industry trends for next year, brought to you by South Florida’s own Lifetime Roofing.

1. Technology advancements

According to a recent Dodge Data & Analytics study, smartphones are used on most job sites, and tablet and drone use is growing. Mobile tools such as cameras are used by 85 percent of all contractors onsite. Advancements in technology like 3D printing, and self-driving vehicles should become a reality in 2018.

“Technology is drastically improving job site safety, providing tangible results in protecting workers and firms alike,” said Jim Dorris, vice president of environmental, health and safety for United Rentals in a press release. “Evolving data platforms, tools and service capabilities will deliver innovative new safety solutions.”

2. Increased safety

The construction industry is still sadly a leader in workplace accidents. But technologies like safety inspection checklist apps, smart helmets and badges can help buck the trend. According to recent study, safety during building design, called Prevention through Design (PtD) in the scientific article, is an emerging practice for the industry. PtD promotes considering safety issues during design, from the schematic stage forward.

3. Increased Spending

The Construction market is expected to grow three percent next year to $765 billion. Single-family housing is expected to climb nine percent in dollars and seven percent in the number of units with commercial buildings and institutional buildings increasing two and three percent, respectively.

You are also going to see a lot more modular construction projects, a greener and more efficient way to assemble a building.
